Getting Ready for an Interview

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for that job interview you have scheduled:

  1. Be prepared. Familiarize yourself with the position you are being interviewed for, and research on the company that you are interested to join..  This will equip you with a good understanding of the role you are applying for which can help in the interview process.
  2. Bring a copy of your resume.
  3. Be well groomed. Dress appropriately in business attire.
  4. Be on time. In fact, get to your interview 10 to 15 minutes ahead of time. It is far better for you to end up waiting than to keep your interviewer waiting for you.
  5. Stay calm. Take a deep breath, relax and smile. This will help keep you focused during the interview and any other assessment steps you may have to undergo.
  6. Have patience. Sometimes, the recruitment process can take several hours, you undergo several assessments, and you spend time waiting between each step. Bring a book, some candy and water with you to keep you entertained and hydrated.  Use the opportunity as well to make new friends with other aspiring applicants.
  7. Keep a smile on your face. It’s amazing how the simple act of smiling lifts up your spirits and gives you a boost of confidence during the interview process. In addition, you also lift the spirits of the people around you.
  8. Sell yourself, but don’t go overboard. Be specific in describing your achievements, and how these contribute to adding value to the role you are interviewing for. Be honest in sharing your career goalsand challenges. Exhibit confidence during the interview – you are your best salesperson.
