Case Studies
American Association of Petroleum Geologists
SPi Global provides editorial, composition, and web-ready content production services for the AAPG Bulletin, a prestigious monthly science journal featuring peer-reviewed papers on geosciences, special publications of AAPG, peer-reviewed books, and memoirs. The company's XML-first workflow enables it to cost effectively deliver not only conventional typeset content for printing, but also XML and HTML.
American Geophysical Union
SPi Global initially supported the launch of a very high-profile, new, all-electronic journal for AGU, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems (G-cubed). This journal is not published in paper, and all author inputs and outputs are electronic. From copyedited author files (Word, LaTeX, etc.), SPi Global supplies XML, and then produces the article in a typeset PDF format and HTML. These proofs are posted to a website for author review. AGU then returns corrected XML files to SPi Global for final PDF and HTML output. AGU then publishes the paper electronically.
American Institute of Physics
Since early 2001 SPi Global has been supplying content conversion services to AIP. Projects include imaging of print journal pages, keying and SGML-coding of journal article content, including full-text and a combination of header files and references. The scope of the header file conversion activity is more than 8,000 articles per year converted in a 4-day workflow. Recently, SPi Global has taken on conversion of a Quark-produced, magazine-like publication to SGML, and a project which required keying directly into an Access database.
American Society for Microbiology
SPi Global is supporting this prestigious society publisher's first entry into delivering personal data assistant (PDA) versions of some of its important clinical reference products. SPi Global is producing XML (DocBook XML DTD 4.2) and typesetting for the Pocket Guide to Clinical Microbiology, 3rd edition and A Clinician's Dictionary of Pathogenic Microorganisms.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers
SPi Global has produced a number of books for this New York-based publisher, some of which have heavy math content and other complex requirements. SPi Global has also copyedited a project for ASME, and has worked on a project where much of the line art required extensive editing and re-rendering.
